The method used is where a work piece is held upright in a rotating chuck and multiple precision grinding processes such us OD grinding, ID grinding and face grinding can be done in a single chucking.
CNC centerless grinding allows very precise regulation of the grinding wheel. It provides an accurate response to the force from the work piece when pushed against grinding wheels. CNC centerless grinding has made profile dressing slides easier to manufacture with precise motion and control.
This is used to grind parts that require multiple diameters and profiles to be ground at one time. The part is loaded onto the blade and pushed against a stop to hold it stationary.
Honing is an abrasive machining process that produces a precision surface on a metal work piece by scrubbing an abrasive grinding stone or grinding wheel against it along a controlled path. Honing is primarily used to improve the geometric form of a surface, but can also improve the surface finish. Typical applications are the finishing of cylinders for internal combustion engines, air bearing spindles and gears.
